Walnut Creek Metropolitan Park and Austin Parks Foundation
Category : Blog
If looking for a nice place to spend some time outdoors in the north area of town, visit Walnut Creek Metropolitan Park- just off of North Lamar. Purchased by the city in 1964, the park used to be a part of a farm owned by the Gracy family. Walnut Creek Park features a large off-leash area and a multitude of hilly, twisted trails popular with mountain bikers. The trails have a nice amount of shade, and are maintained regularly as Austin Ridge Riders has adopted the trails. The landscape can change drastically after rains when cliffs have been known to shift and the creek flow will vary. Dogs can be seen splashing in the water with their furry friends or taking long swims while playing fetch. Other park features are barbeque pits, one picnic shelter, 26 picnic tables, a playground, and swimming pool.
This parked is maintained by The Austin Parks Foundation.
